HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN UPCYCLED PATCH

1. Lay out all of your fabrics and materials on a work surface.
   
   
2. Sketch or journal about what inspires you in the colors, textures, patterns you see. What is the story or message you want to share through your patch? How will it represent you? 
   
   
3. If you want to cut one or more specific shape(s), you can draw them on a piece of cardboard or heavy paper and cut out a template. Trace your shape onto the back of the fabric with a pencil or fabric pen, or cut freehand. 
   
   
4. Cut out the shapes with your scissors. Arrange them on your denim patch base. You can move them around until you are happy with your design. 
   
   
5. Use pins to hold your pieces down to the patch base for stitching. 
   
   
6. Plan out your stitching. At minimum, you’ll want to go around the edges of each fabric appliqué to secure the  pieces. You can also create decorative stitches, shapes, or text. Use pencil or fabric pen to outline your stitch lines. 
   
   
7. Stitch and embellish your patch however you would like! Make it your own. 
   
   
8. When you’re ready, hand stitch the patch onto your jeans, bag or other surface.
